19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard courts
A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The Russian, a former number one, has had a torrid year, managing just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently training with his coach and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This represents the player's initial title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt from that period of that year.
Victory also indicates he has secured twenty-one championships at 21 distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.
The player's counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.
But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced service.
Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the final five games to go ahead.
Both players traded breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his initial tour victory, took control to force a final set.
He rescued four initial chances in a competitive third set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.
Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
